Cow Creek Trip Report – by Walt Bammann

It was a happy Easter for 12 guys and gals who braved showery weather for a rare chance to float Cow Creek near Glendale, OR.  This small creek is barely noticeable when one crosses it on I-5 near Azalea.  Then you may get an occasional glimpse as it moseys along on the west side of the freeway before veering west at the Glendale exit.  At Glendale it steers north and flows for 35 miles before emptying into the South Umpqua River near the town of Riddle.  Our unusually wet weather this spring has apparently filled Galesville Reservoir so the dam is releasing a steady flow lately keeping the creek over the 500 cfs considered minimum to raft.

NWRA----OWA ---HORSESHOE BEND CAMPOUT

by Walt Bammann

The 9th annual Umpqua Chapter campout was held on June 3, 4, 5 at the Deerflat Group area at the Horseshoe Bend Campground on the North Umpqua River.  The weatherman had promised warm and sunny weather (at least some weathermen promised) for the weekend after weeks of rain and cool weather.  Based on the optimistic forecast and a good river level, folks started rolling in early Friday to set up camp.  For the second year the trip was co-sponsored by OWA and, as it turns out, many folks are members of both clubs.  We were expecting a high turnout in spite of all the activities happening in early June and we were not disappointed.  Jody tallied 60 people participating in some form or other over the weekend.  We had people who came just for the camping, some just for the boating and some just for the potluck on Saturday night.  This was our second highest attendance (63 being the highest).

2011 Lower N Umpqua

Posted by admin on May 4, 2011

What has turned into an annual event occurred again on April 8th,  9th and 10th as the NWRA and OWA clubs held a joint white-water rally on the North Umpqua River.  For the second year in a row the two clubs floated a section of the lower river together.  This year we stayed in the Whistler’s Bend county campground and floated from there to a take-out just east of the Winchester Dam. After the float, the event was topped off with a Dutch oven cook off on Saturday night with everyone voting on who cooked the best main dish, the best side dish, and the best dessert.
